Pigeon House Night by Cian McLoughlin

You’ve got to love the simplicity of the page title of Cian’s website: “Cian McLoughlin, Painter.” And a very good painter he is. Or at least I like his work. Go and check it all out at http://www.cianmcloughlin.com/.

[That's to Richie Jape for pointing this out.]

Fever Ray – When I Grow Up

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

I know this has been mentioned everywhere today but just in case you live under a rock, this is Fever Ray’s new song When I Grow Up. Fever Ray is Karin Elisabeth Dreijer Andersson, vocalist from the Knife (as if you couldn’t tell!).

Warning: Strobe Lighting Effects In Use!!!

What SMD did next. I prefer the video to the music personally, but hurrah for the English spelling of Synthesise. :)

Philth and Romo

Philth and Romo

I never got around to posting this – me and Romo being Art. There is a much more annoying animated gif version too. :) Head over to Synth Eastwood to check out more from the Cycles show and download the Synth Eastwood Band set that Simon put together.

Panti Gets Politcal

Pantis Blog

Panti's Blog

Not that she wasn’t before, but Panti got politcal on her blog over the weekend, and as a result is stirring up a bit of a debate over the upcoming civil partnership legislation, or more specifically over the lack of marriage rights for LGBT couples. Hopefully there will be some additional coverage of the issues involved as a result. Take a trip over and leave a comment. I am.

Quand Je Serai Grand...

Quand Je Serai Grand...

La Fraise are a limited run t-shirts company with offices down in Cork that pay €1,000 if they use your design. It doesn’t take long to see that they have some nice original pieces in there, but if you go back very far they’re all sold out in anything but XXL for men or S for women. That’s because they make a maximum of 500 of any design. I’ve got a couple picked out, including the one above, to order at the end of the month (I can’t believe I’m praying for payday and it’s only the 16th!). Don’t all buy it before I do. Please. Thanks to @keithbohanna for the heads up.

Monster Munch Blog

Monday, February 16th, 2009

It’s not often I come across a blog where I like nearly everything on it, but Monster Munch is one. (It’s nothing to do with the snack / crisps of the same name before you click!) I originally came across it as one of the Fluffy Links on Mulley.net btw. I like the clean look, I like their favicon, and most of all I like the content. Here’s a small selection of images from posts just on their first page:

One For The Road (Records)

Road Records Fundraiser

Road Records Fundraiser

My heart sank when I heard that Road Records would be closing, but for once in these days of doom and gloom there’s a chance of a happy ending. I don’t know all the details, but there is talk (see On The Record) that some investors might be lining up to keep Road going. It looks like the remarkable outpouring of support from current and lapsed customers alike was enough to at least get the ball moving on some kind of a rescue plan.

In the meantime, we all have a chance to put our money where our mouths are and show a bit of support by buying tickets and telling our friends to buy tickets for the “benefit and celebration” called One For The Road in Andrews Lane on Saturday March 14th. Playing on the night will be Jape, The Jimmy Cake, Si Schroeder, Colm Mac Con Iomaire, Adrian Crowley, The Dudley Corporation vs The Large Mound (The Large Corporation) and the Road Records DJs. It’s a great line-up for a great cause.

Seth Godin on the Music Industry

Seth Godins Blog

Seth Godin's Blog

I read Seth’s blog quite a lot. He passes on very focused business and marketing ideas with good real world examples to back them up. His blog is definitely worth 5 minutes of your time every day. Today he talks about an interview he did about the music industry (blog post here, full interview here), which echoes what I’ve been hearing from a lot of different people recently.

Basically, there are massive opportunities today to lead a group of enthusiastic fans and become a leading voice within that group. How you manage your “Tribe” is up to you, but there are ways to make money when you’re organising the conversation. Just ask Shock, Remedy and Bodytonic. :)

If you’re in a band, run a label, run a club or do anything really involved with the music industry, I suggest you take a look.
