An idea so simple and brilliantly executed it deserves a link. Go check out Scanwiches. I dare you not to be hungry afterwards…

I’d normally just ignore comments I don’t agree with from the Pope or other religious leaders, but, no matter what he believes personally or as the head of the Catholic Church, saying that AIDS “cannot be overcome through the distribution of condoms, which even aggravates the problems” is only going to lead to more people getting infected and dying.
Despite understanding some of the theological reasons for the objection of the church to sex before marriage and the use of contraception, I can’t understand how they can continue to tell people not to use condoms when all the evidence suggests that letting them do so will save a great number of people’s lives. How can having more sick and dying people be better than having less?

303 On The Footpath
I swear these numbers find me wherever I go! This set appeared on a footpath on my way to work. For those who these numbers mean nothing to, go check out the Roland TB-303 wikipedia page.
The Roland TB-303 was one of the first machines that made me want to write and produce music. It sounded so alien and exciting that I had to find out more. For a long time I made do with poor software versions and trying to make other synths sound like a 303, but eventually I got a chance to buy a real one, and I didn’t hesitate.
It sometimes sits in the studio unloved for months at a time, but whenever I get the bug to make music, the pieces of kit I always come back to are the 303, the MPC and the distortion pedal.
Note to self: Must do a post about great tracks that use the 303…

Remember When This Was Good?
Not a lot of solid info on this yet, but early reports of a “dark”, adult oriented show sound great. There is obviously a massive middle-aged fan base who would gladly watch a regular Star Wars based show. You can read snippets of info on Holy Moly’s mailout and on the MTV Movies blog.
Having not gotten into Peep Show properly yet I wouldn’t call myself a fan of Robert Webb. In fact he’s one of those people that I have a mild dislike of for no apparent reason. Here though he channels his inner Dr. Frank-N-Furter for Comic Relief’s dance program and it’s hard not to laugh. Good work from Comic Relief for hijacking the celebs dancing format to great effect.
Not for the first time, nor for the last time, another great shop is closing down. Manny’s in New York is a world famous instrument shop and news of it’s demise comes via a post on the Underworld website. I couldn’t agree more with them when they say “… it’s the staff that make a place bad or good”. I buy off people at every given opportunity. Websites are great and all that, but it’s hard to beat talking to knowledgable staff about products they are passionate about. They best ones will even tell you what not to buy! Click through to read more about the used-to-be-plain-white guitar in the picture above.
There are a million USB memory sticks to choose from, but at least these ones look kinda cool.
More info from the Lacie USB keys webpage.
Unfortunately the video, or rather the exhibition they’re visiting, isn’t as interesting as you might hope.
