Information Is Beautiful

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

A great name for a site that turns information into illustration, InformationIsBeautiful.net shows the power of the image when it comes to understanding complex sets of data or abstract ideas. The image below shows how, if you forget about the effects of nuclear fallout, we don’t have nearly enough nuclear weapons to come even close to destroying the world. Phew!

Fionn Izznit @ Soundcheck

Fionn Izznit @ Soundcheck

… or this could be hell. :)

The Irish blogosphere jumps out of the screen and gets all 3D for one night only when a fury of bloggers gets together to play music at Soundcheck in Spy on Thursday (i.e. tomorrow or tonight depending on when you read this). Here’s the line-up:

Nialler9
Jim Carroll
Rick O’Shea
Ian Wright (Thrill Pier)
NaRocRoc
UnaRocks
Sweet Oblivion
Rapture Ponies
Aoife McIndieHour
Bluebirds Are So Natural
Dublin Streets

Doors at 7pm, and free in until 11pm.

While writing this I was wondering what the collective noun for bloggers was, and realising there isn’t one yet, the best I could come up with in a hurry was  a fury of bloggers. Anyone got a better idea? (I also came across this useful A-Z list of collective nouns of types of people.)

Dinosaurs Fucking Robots. It does exactly what it says on the tin. :)

Monster Munch Blog

Monday, February 16th, 2009

It’s not often I come across a blog where I like nearly everything on it, but Monster Munch is one. (It’s nothing to do with the snack / crisps of the same name before you click!) I originally came across it as one of the Fluffy Links on Mulley.net btw. I like the clean look, I like their favicon, and most of all I like the content. Here’s a small selection of images from posts just on their first page:
