Economic Crisis First 100 Days

I don’t know if she’s doing a good job at home but by sacking the bank executives in the bank that the French government bailed out, I think I can safely say I’d prefer to have Christine Lagarde as our Minister for Finance rather than our own Brian Lenihan. As you can see above, she can hold her own with Jon Stewart, something I’d like to see any Irish politician do!

The New Wine vs Erlend Øye

Friday, February 13th, 2009

A nice little find thanks to the people at Waves At Night. The New Wine performing the Fred Falke remix of A Golden Cage by The Whitest Boy Alive, and Erlend Øye just happens to be on hand to do the vocal. :)

Time To Do, Not Say

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

Now more than ever it’s time to support the businesses and people you think are remarkable. Vote with your feet and and your wallets where you can or some of them won’t be here in a week, let alone a month. I think a lot of music folk here in Dublin have been shocked into action by the upcoming closure of Road Records, and while a record shop closing is not that strange an occurance these days, Road was always more than that, a centre point for like minded community of independent music fans. It will be sorely missed by many, and my personal best wishes go out to Road’s owners Dave and Julie. Two nicer people you will never meeet.

Here are some people and places I support when I can. I hope you will too.

Treasure Fingers – Cross The Dancefloor (Lifelike Remix)

Treasure Fingers

I really shouldn’t like this… but I really do. I can imagine this being played in some of the cheesiest nightclubs around but I don’t care. I’m going to be playing it loud for a few days. Maybe I’ll be over it by the time I get to playing my next gig. :)

Buy this track on iTunes, Beatport, or Juno. [Full links to follow.]

Check out Treasure Fingers Myspace page for info about gigs and releases.

Keedz – Stand On The Word

Monday, July 21st, 2008

This actually took a lot longer to happen that I thought it would. Ever since Celestial Choir’s “Stand On The Word” appeared on the Pet Shop Boys’ excellent Back To Mine compilation it’s been ripe for the chart-baiting cover version. Step up Keedz on Universal Music France with this offering:

A lot of people are convinced this is just Justice under a different name. The truth will come out soon enough, but whether it is them or not it’s a pretty lazy re-work that seems to have lost all the soul of the earlier version.

Daft Punk Encore Costumes

[picture: Instructables.com]

[Update - 18 October 2008]

This page seems to be getting a lot of hits so I did a bit more searching myself to see what info I could find about Daft Punk costumes. First up, here’s a link to the company that did the encore suits pictured above:

Daft Punk page on Enlighted.com:

http://enlighted.com/pages/daftpunk2007.shtml

It seems that no one is actually making and selling Daft Punk costumes at the moment, so your only option is to make your own. Here’s a link to a Cosplay message board where people discuss how to build their own:

Finally, here are some pictures of people wearing costumes they made themselves:

[End Of Update]

There’s a great post over on Instructables.com by the woman who added the Tron-like light strips to Daft Punk’s encore costumes from their Alive 2007 tour. If you get started now you might be able to have your own Daft Punk costume ready in time for Halloween!

Etienne De Crecy live videos

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

I was talking to Etienne De Crecy last year about our respective live setups (he’s a hardware man too), so when a friend mentioned some video of a show of his last year I had to have a look. There’s a longer video up on Etienne’s Myspace page.
