A plug for myself this time. I’ve been playing these Mixed Salad events for years now. They used to run all day on bank holiday sundays in McGruders on Thomas Street, and were pretty much the closest you could get to a no-frills, back-in-the-day rave in Dublin and were always fun to play at. I’m glad that the guys behind the gig have decided to run it again, albeit in a smaller venue, this March 14th – a saturday this time.
It runs from 1pm to sometime between 11 and 12 midnight, and admission is €15. For that your hard earned recession euros you get the following DJs and live acts:
DOWNSTAIRS CLUB ROOM (HOUSE & TECHNO)
MATADOR
AL KEEGAN
ARVEENE
PHILTH
JAY GROGAN OLDSKOOL SET
SIMON F
BLOOD OR MONEY AKA SINISTER INDUSTRY
LIL DAVE
STRING LIVE
GILES K
AARON NOLAN
UPSTAIRS (BANGERS AND MASH UP)
DAVE SALACIOUS
MARK ALTON
HOSPITAL LIVE
CONKY
LYONSYTRON
NIC JAMES
MICK O BRIAN
DICK
Hopefully I’ll see some of you there.
I never got around to posting this – me and Romo being Art. There is a much more annoying animated gif version too.
Head over to Synth Eastwood to check out more from the Cycles show and download the Synth Eastwood Band set that Simon put together.
I’ve been steering clear of taking on any residencies of late, preferring to guest around the place for different promoters, but I’ve been offered a couple of things recently that I’m going to put my name to.
First up, it’s Pantibar on Capel Street. I’ll be doing Saturdays in their new basement club on Saturdays. The good things from my point of view are that I get to play all night, 10pm until 2.30am, which is something I haven’t gotten to do in a long time and I have complete control over what I play. It gives me a chance to play more than just the Backlash / Boys Noize / Vitalic sound that people associate me with, and play some slower grooves alongside some pop and leftfield tunes. Best of all I got my name on a poster designed by Niall Sweeney’s Pony. As is the norm when my name is on poster, it’s very small. But maybe one day I’ll earn the headline spot…
For those of you who don’t know, Panti is “the most influential of all Irish drag queens”. It says so on Wikipedia, so it must be true! You should also take a look at Panti’s blog, which carries some great stories, nice photos, and contributions from Penny the dog.
The second residency isn’t quite ready to be announced yet, but is another one that I am very excited about. More to follow…
I’m finally back on the Internet in my own time so I can spend a bit of time writing, posting pictures, videos and music again.
There is much to write about at the moment, but proper journalists are doing a pretty good job of covering the Big Issues of our day so I’m going to leave most of them alone for now. I am pretty interested in how leaderless our country is at the moment though, and how this listless government is steering us straight into bankruptcy and perpetual debt. But that’s a thought for another day.
Tonight one of my favourite people in the city is having her beautiful birthday party not far from where I live, but because of the gloom monster hanging over the city I’m going to be playing it safe and lining my nest with philthy lucre indulging my musicality.
I’ve always been one for not letting jobs get in the way of having a real life but even I’m conscious of not falling foul of credit crunches and other undefined economic menaces. Still, at least the party starts early so I’ll get to go for a while before disappearing off into the night.
Things to do tonight (the 24th) for the rest of you:
Check out Calvin and Sol playing in Wax (Club Of The Week!)
Speedy J is in the Twisted Pepper
Pick one of the hundred or so Oscar movies that just came out
Come say hi to me in Pantibar
Head over to LoopOfTheDay.com to catch some news about news about the next outing of the Synth Eastwood band, and crazy loop war that are both taking place under the umbrella of the DEAF Festival 2008.
Hopefully I’ll see you at one or both of the shows!
