Seth Godins Blog

Seth Godin's Blog

I read Seth’s blog quite a lot. He passes on very focused business and marketing ideas with good real world examples to back them up. His blog is definitely worth 5 minutes of your time every day. Today he talks about an interview he did about the music industry (blog post here, full interview here), which echoes what I’ve been hearing from a lot of different people recently.

Basically, there are massive opportunities today to lead a group of enthusiastic fans and become a leading voice within that group. How you manage your “Tribe” is up to you, but there are ways to make money when you’re organising the conversation. Just ask Shock, Remedy and Bodytonic. :)

If you’re in a band, run a label, run a club or do anything really involved with the music industry, I suggest you take a look.

Twitter

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

Do you use it? You probably will, although it may have been bought and sold a few times before you do. I started using it for work, and can see a lot of potential in it. In this connected world it will come as no surprise that you can link your Twitter feed to your Facebook profile updates, and so I have, although I decided it’d be better to have a personal Twitter account rather than my work one for this purpose. You can follow or add me here: http://twitter.com/philth_ie / @philth_ie

I’ll give a special Philth prize to the first person that predicts exactly how Twitter are going to make money…

Time To Do, Not Say

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

Now more than ever it’s time to support the businesses and people you think are remarkable. Vote with your feet and and your wallets where you can or some of them won’t be here in a week, let alone a month. I think a lot of music folk here in Dublin have been shocked into action by the upcoming closure of Road Records, and while a record shop closing is not that strange an occurance these days, Road was always more than that, a centre point for like minded community of independent music fans. It will be sorely missed by many, and my personal best wishes go out to Road’s owners Dave and Julie. Two nicer people you will never meeet.

Here are some people and places I support when I can. I hope you will too.
