Standby
Monday, June 22nd, 2009NTL / UPC have, ironically, been watching too much TV. I phoned up a couple of weeks ago to tell them that I was moving back to my old address. I brought their equipment with me and hooked it up, and lo and behold all my old channels were there.
I decided to hook up the cable modem to see if it was still getting a signal, and it was, although I needed a new login as I’d cancelled my Internet account because they couldn’t provide it in my new place.
So far, so unremarkable, right? I called back and told them that everything was working, and all I needed them to do was switch my address in their system so I could re-order my broadband connection. This was when they decided to fall back on that modern classic:
“Computer says ‘No’.”
Apparently despite providing me with a very reliable service for a couple of years before I moved (6 months ago), their system says they’re not sure if they can service this address – and that’s for TV as well as Internet services. This despite that fact that the digital TV box is hooked up and working right now!
So, while I’m waiting for NTL to get their act together, I’m stuck writing blog posts on my iPhone, so pictures and links will be at a minimum for a while.
In the meantime, I’m looking forward to playing at The Hop Farm Festival next weekend, along with a few more Irish acts, notably Jape, Fight Like Apes and R.S.A.G.
